The Short Term Low Impact (STLI) Traffic Management course is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to implement traffic management plans for short-term, low-impact works. This course is ideal for individuals who set up and remove traffic control devices for worksites where traffic conditions remain largely unchanged and do not require active traffic control (e.g., stop/slow bat).

Here’s What You’ll Learn In This Course:
The STLI – Short Term Low Impact Traffic Management course focuses on safe work practices for short-duration or low-impact work zones. Participants will learn to install and remove signs and devices, follow traffic management plans, and ensure compliance with Austroads and WHS standards. This course is suitable for those undertaking tasks such as setting up traffic control devices for minor works, maintenance, or inspections where minimal disruption to traffic flow occurs.
Key areas of study include:
- Understanding Austroads and WHS requirements for low-impact traffic management.
- Reading and interpreting basic traffic management plans.
- Correct placement and removal of signs and devices for low-risk worksites.
- Identifying hazards and implementing risk controls.
- Communication and reporting processes on-site.

Achievements
On successful completion of the course you will receive a Certificate of Completion which states that you have successfully completed the TTM Short-Term Low Impact Worker course. Successful completion of this course does not allow the individual to perform the functions of a fully qualified Traffic Controller, Traffic Management Implementer or Traffic Management Designer.
Pre-Requisites
To enrol in this course, participants must:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Hold a valid White Card (CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry).
- Possess basic English language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills.
- Be physically fit to safely handle traffic control equipment.
- Bring two forms of ID (e.g., driver’s licence and Medicare card).
Course Structure
- Classroom Theory: Learn about legislation, site safety requirements, signage placement, and interpreting traffic management plans.
- Assessment: Includes a written knowledge test and practical demonstration of skills in compliance with traffic management standards.
Obtaining Registration
Certification is issued once participants successfully complete all theory and practical assessments. This qualification may allow individuals to legally install and remove temporary traffic control devices for short-term or low-impact works under a traffic management plan.
Payment & Booking Terms
Payment in full is required at enrolment and must be made at least 4 days before your course date to secure your booking.
STEP123 complies with RTO standards and does not collect over $1,500 in advance. Payment options include credit/debit card, bank transfer, Afterpay, or approved group/workplace invoicing. For those facing financial difficulty, flexible arrangements can be discussed prior to enrolment.
Refunds are only available for cancellations made 48+ hours before class (50% refund). Cancellations within 48 hours or after class starts are non-refundable. Refunds are processed within 14 days.
Reschedule requests made more than 24 hours before class are allowed once for free. Requests within 24 hours require a new booking and payment. If STEP123 cancels or reschedules a class, students will be offered an alternative date at no extra cost.
