The HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to respond quickly and effectively to cardiac emergencies. This training aligns with the latest guidelines of the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and focuses on ensuring participants can confidently perform CPR on adults and infants and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
During the course, participants will learn how to recognise cardiac arrest, assess emergency situations, and deliver effective CPR while maintaining safe work practices. Practical training involves hands-on experience with CPR manikins and AED equipment in realistic simulated scenarios to build confidence and competence.
The course also covers essential topics such as legal responsibilities, infection control, chain of survival principles, and effective communication during an emergency. It is suitable for first aiders renewing their CPR annually and for individuals in industries such as healthcare, childcare, aged care, fitness, education, construction, and community services.
Upon completion, participants receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, valid for 12 months. Annual renewal is recommended to maintain currency and workplace compliance. Pre-Requisites
To enrol in HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), participants must:
- Be at least 14 years of age (parent/guardian consent required if under 18).
- Have the physical ability to perform CPR on the floor for at least 2 minutes.
- Possess basic English language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to understand instructions, complete assessments, and communicate effectively in emergencies.
- Bring two forms of identification, such as a driver’s licence and Medicare card (passport or student ID card also accepted).
Course Structure
The CPR course is delivered entirely face-to-face in a short, practical training session.
- Classroom Theory:
Participants will learn the principles of CPR, legal and safety considerations, recognising cardiac arrest, and how to respond effectively in an emergency situation. - Practical Training:
Hands-on training focuses on:- Performing CPR on adults and infants.
- Using an AED (defibrillator) safely and effectively.
- Managing cardiac emergencies following Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.
- Practising realistic emergency scenarios to build confidence.
- Assessment:
Assessment includes a short written knowledge test and practical demonstration of CPR and AED skills under the supervision of a certified trainer.
This structure provides participants with the knowledge and hands-on skills to confidently perform CPR in real-life emergencies.
Obtaining Registration
Upon successful completion of all theory and practical assessments, participants will be issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for:

Participants will also receive a CPR card, which serves as convenient proof of competency for workplaces and compliance purposes.
This certification is valid for 12 months in line with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. Annual renewal is strongly recommended to ensure compliance with workplace requirements and to keep CPR skills current.
Payment & Booking Terms
Payment in full is required at enrolment and must be made at least 4 days before your course date to secure your booking.
STEP123 complies with RTO standards and does not collect over $1,500 in advance. Payment options include credit/debit card, bank transfer, Afterpay, or approved group/workplace invoicing. For those facing financial difficulty, flexible arrangements can be discussed prior to enrolment.
Refunds are only available for cancellations made 48+ hours before class (50% refund). Cancellations within 48 hours or after class starts are non-refundable. Refunds are processed within 14 days.
Reschedule requests made more than 24 hours before class are allowed once for free. Requests within 24 hours require a new booking and payment. If STEP123 cancels or reschedules a class, students will be offered an alternative date at no extra cost.
