Enter and work in confined spaces
The RIIWHS202E – Enter and Work in Confined Spaces course provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to safely prepare for, enter, work in and exit confined spaces. This nationally recognised course is suitable for people working in civil construction, mining, utilities, maintenance, manufacturing and other industries where confined-space entry is required.
Enter and work in confined spaces
This nationally recognised course focuses on safely preparing for, entering, working in and exiting confined spaces within the resources and infrastructure industries. Participants will learn to identify confined-space hazards, follow entry permits and workplace procedures, confirm that required safety controls are in place, communicate effectively and respond appropriately to changing conditions and emergencies.
Key learning outcomes include:
- Understanding WHS/OHS requirements, responsibilities and duty of care when working in confined spaces.
- Identifying confined-space hazards, assessing risks and implementing appropriate control measures.
- Interpreting work instructions, confined-space entry permits and workplace procedures.
- Confirming isolations, atmospheric testing, ventilation, signage and barricading requirements.
- Selecting, inspecting and correctly using personal protective equipment and safety equipment.
- Entering, working in and exiting confined spaces safely while maintaining communication with the standby person.
- Following emergency response and rescue procedures.
- Clearing the work area, reporting hazards and completing required documentation.
Entry Requirements
To enrol in this course, participants must:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Hold a valid White Card (CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry).
- Possess basic English language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills.
- Provide two forms of identification (e.g., driver’s licence and Medicare card).
- Wear appropriate PPE, including steel-capped boots, high-visibility clothing, and hard hat.
Payment & Booking Terms
Payment in full is required at enrolment and must be made at least 4 days before your course date to secure your booking.
STEP123 complies with RTO standards and does not collect over $1,500 in advance. Payment options include credit/debit card, bank transfer, Afterpay, or approved group/workplace invoicing. For those facing financial difficulty, flexible arrangements can be discussed prior to enrolment.
Refunds are only available for cancellations made 48+ hours before class (50% refund). Cancellations within 48 hours or after class starts are non-refundable. Refunds are processed within 14 days.
Reschedule requests made more than 24 hours before class are allowed once for free. Requests within 24 hours require a new booking and payment. If STEP123 cancels or reschedules a class, students will be offered an alternative date at no extra cost.
